This month, Ivan E. Brown, President & CEO, turned 60.  Although he may not frequently discuss his love of the circus at business meetings, these extravaganzas have been a favorite pastime for the ringleader since he was a child.  Employees and their families  surprised Ivan with a birthday party at Boji Bay Pavilion, where three original Arnold's Park Fun House toys from his youth are now being preserved.  Cotton candy, p…

From its inception in 1897, the Boston Marathon has served to highlight the courage, resiliency and community of those who dedicate themselves to accomplishing one of the most difficult tasks in human sport – running 26.2 miles in varied terrain. The tragic events of April 15th did not change that spirit. Rather, they have served to highlight those same qualities among the many who have responded in the aftermath with aid and support. Brow…

Did you know that only about 5% of the general population gives blood? Reasons for needing blood include cancer, car accidents, organ transplant, heart and other diseases.  For many patients, a blood transfusion is the difference between life and death.  Recently, Brownmed employees stepped up to the challenge of helping our local communities with a blood drive in Kansas City and Spirit Lake. The company kicked off this community service activit…

Our staff recently worked together to raise nearly $300 for Wounded Warrior Project. This effort was initiated by John Paulson, a Brownmed employee, who served in the US Army in Korea and Iraq.  A picture of John and a fellow service person is shown below.  We appreciate the sacrifices the armed forces make and look forward to future efforts to support them as well.   John Paulson at Camp Jackson in Korea.

As we go about our day to day work lives at Brownmed, it is easy to get in a routine of simply getting things done.  This is good because it allows us to accomplish a great deal of work.  The downside is that we can forget how important our work is to patients' lives on a daily basis.  The Peru Orphanage Project, organized by occupational therapy students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, provides a good reason to pause and reflect.  Last y…

With temperatures below zero, Brownmed warmed up with its third annual Chili Contest. Five competitors dished out their favorite bowls of beans.  A lunch buffet of chili was enjoyed and votes were cast for the crowd favorite. At afternoon break, Jerry Rohwer took home the Brownmed Chili Cook-Off Trophy for the 2nd year in a row with his version of “Grilled Steak Chili”.  Jerry remarked that he used the same recipe as last y…

Many families go through a check and balance process when it comes to their health. They try to determine if avoiding the cost of medical bills as well as time off from work is worth the risk of delaying medical treatment for a problem – especially when they question how serious the problem is for their long term health.   Many health experts agree that delaying needed and recommended treatments will end up costing individuals and …
